Born on August 30, 1942, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, AJ's journey through life was marked by his quiet demeanor, which blossomed into a vibrant and engaging personality to those who had the pleasure of truly knowing him.

 AJ pursued his academic interests, earning degrees from the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. His education and experiences shaped a man of discipline, honor, and intellectual curiosity, qualities that he carried into all aspects of his life. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.

AJ's love for his family was immeasurable. He is survived by his loving children, Lisa McPhate (Jason), Robert Walrath (Meriah), Gary Walrath, Anneliese Walrath, and Marissa Walrath. His legacy continues through his adored grandchild, Elora Walrath. AJ was a brother to Nancy Runyans and Richard Walrath. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kelley, and his parents, Arthur and Margaret Walrath.

Those who knew AJ understood his passion for life's simple pleasures. He was an avid traveler, exploring the world and embracing new cultures, always returning with stories that captivated his listeners. A connoisseur of chocolate, he never missed an opportunity to indulge in his favorite treat, often sharing it with those around him. His hobby as a coin collector was more than a pastime; it was a window into history and art, which he appreciated with a keen eye for detail.

Above all, AJ's presence was a source of stability and love. His quiet nature was a canvas for his inner vibrancy, and once he opened up, his humor, wisdom, and joy for life were infectious.
