She was born on October 30, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a commitment to learning, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew her. Barbara was a woman of strength, intelligence, and quiet grace. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Leo’s University. Her academic achievements reflected her curiosity about people and her desire to better understand the world around her. She valued knowledge and believed in the importance of personal growth, and she carried that belief with her in all that she did. Barbara found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life.
She loved to crochet, and her hands created beautiful pieces that reflected her patience, care, and creativity. She also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs, a team that held a special place in her heart. These interests brought her comfort and happiness, and they were among the many ways she expressed her love for life and the traditions that mattered to her.
Family was at the center of Barbara’s life. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Fry and Cathy Banks, who will forever cherish her memory and the love she gave them. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her pride and joy. Barbara is further survived by her sister, Nancy McPherson, along with nephews and nieces, and a host of family and friends who will deeply miss her presence. Her family was a source of great meaning to her, and she in turn was a source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love to them. Barbara’s life was one of devotion, resilience, and compassion. She built a legacy not only through her accomplishments, but through the relationships she nurtured and the example she set.
