Barbara Scott Keene Obituary

Barbara Scott Keene, a beacon of joy and love, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in Dunnellon, Florida, at the age of 78. Born on March 26, 1947, in Raymond, Kentucky, Barbara's vibrant spirit and nurturing soul touched the lives of many throughout her journey.

Barbara, known affectionately as "Mom Mom" by her expansive family, was the cherished matriarch who fostered a home filled with laughter, kindness, and unwavering support. Her brothers, Scott Mattingly, Marty & Amy Claycomb, and Gary Claycomb, alongside her sisters, Mary Webb, Marguerite Davenport, Sue Claycomb, and Linda & Paul Wayne England, remember her as a guiding light who brought warmth and comfort to every family gathering.

Barbara's love and legacy live on through her beloved children, Tina Mattingly, Frank Hensley, Dee Dee Hensley, Brett Hensley, Tonie & Darrell Conley, Rhonda & Jim Quick, and Wendy & Dub Falsone. Her best friend and sister-in-law, Tamara Mattingly, will forever hold dear the memories of their special bond. Barbara's life was further enriched by her 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry R. Keene, her son William (Billy) Hensley, brothers Pete Mattingly and David Claycomb and sister Ann Holcomb.

An avid gardener, Barbara's greatest happiness was found tending to her flowers and working in the yard, creating beauty for all to enjoy. Her home was a sanctuary for neighborhood and church children alike, as she embraced each one with the same love and care she gave her own. Her first grandchild, Crystal Calton, bestowed upon her the endearing title of "Mom Mom," a name that became synonymous with unconditional love and nurturing.

Barbara's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She devoted herself to her church, where she was not only a congregant but an active volunteer. Whether teaching Sunday school or serving at the concession stand at Speedway Park, Barbara's selfless spirit was ever-present. Her creative talents shone through in the poems, songs, and short stories she composed, often sharing them with her church community.

Known for her quick wit and sass, Barbara's humor and spirited comebacks were legendary. She had an innate ability to light up a room with her presence, leaving a trail of smiles and laughter in her wake. Her strength and resilience were evident to all who knew her, as she faced life's challenges with grace and determination.

Barbara's story is one of a life lived fully and passionately. Her influence will continue to be felt by the many lives she touched. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, the light of Barbara Scott Keene's spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those she loved.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on the world. Barbara's journey on earth may have concluded, but her legacy of love, family, and faith will endure for generations to come.
