Craig Steven McKittrick Obituary
We celebrate the life and cherish the memory of Craig Steven McKittrick, a beloved husband, stepfather, son, and friend, who passed away on August 23, 2025, in Ocala, Florida. Born on September 14, 1958, in Belleville, Illinois, Craig's zest for life and enduring spirit were evident from his early years.
Craig's early years were marked by the rich legacy of his father, Charles McKittrick, whose 21-year career in the Air Force instilled in him values of dedication and resilience. Craig's journey began under the vast Alaskan skies, where he first attended school, and later in the sun-drenched landscapes of New Mexico, at Holloman Air Force Base, where his father was stationed.
The McKittrick family eventually settled in Illinois, where Charles concluded his distinguished Air Force service at Chanute Air Force Base. It was there that Craig's parents, Charles and Fanny McKittrick, who were united in marriage in 1956, celebrated the arrival of Craig, their beloved son, two years later. Craig's formative years were a tapestry of familial love and the honor of his father's service, which would shape the man he was to become.
In 1976, Craig graduated from Clark High School in Las Vegas, a place that would hold a special place in his heart throughout his life.
Craig's educational journey led him to Springfield College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in human services, a testament to his innate desire to uplift and support those around him. His professional life was marked by his role as an Event Security Officer for Contemporary Services Corporation, where he ensured safety and order with dedication and a warm, reassuring presence
Craig's professional journey took him from the vibrant corridors of the Hilton to the opulent halls of the Fountain Blue, with his talent and commitment propelling him from Las Vegas to Miami and finally to Orlando, Florida. It was in the Sunshine State that Craig settled into the community of Ocala, a place he would call home as an adult.
Craig's life was a reflection of the joy he found in every moment and the service he rendered to others. His legacy began in Illinois but soon spread across many communities, leaving an indelible mark especially in Las Vegas, where his mother, Fanny McKittrick, continues to reside. His mother fondly recalls the echo of her husband Charles's footsteps in Craig's own path, a son who not only honored his father's military service but also embodied the spirit of giving and love that was the hallmark of his family.
His personal life was rich and varied, filled with the joys of the great outdoors. Craig found solace and adventure in the embrace of nature, frequently visiting National Parks, camping under the stars, and relishing the wonder of the natural world. His enthusiasm extended to sports events, where he cheered with passion, and to the open road, where he felt the freedom of the wind while riding his motorcycle.
Craig's love for structure and organization was a cornerstone of his character, bringing a sense of calm and predictability to those around him. His 28 years of sobriety were not only a personal triumph but also a beacon of hope for others, as he served as a drug counselor and coach, guiding many on their path to recovery. His compassionate heart and empathetic ear made him a pillar in his community, especially at Meadowbrook Church in Ocala, where he nurtured his faith and fellowship.
An avid collector, Craig's home was a mosaic of memories, adorned with t-shirts, patches, souvenirs, and ticket stubs from his many adventures. Each item told a story, a snapshot of joy and discovery from places he held dear. His hippy spirit shone brightly, expressing itself through loving gestures, the calming scents of candles and incense, and the melodies of music that filled his home and heart.
Craig's legacy is one of love, service, and the pursuit of joy in every facet of life began in Illinois but spread throughout many communities especially Las Vegas, Nevada where his adoring mother, Fanny McKittrick now lives. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lauren, his stepchildren, Laila and Brenley Singleton, his in-laws Gary and Kelly Davis and a host of family and friends who were blessed by his presence. Craig's light will continue to shine in the lives of those he touched, a testament to a life lived with purpose, passion, and peace.
As we bid farewell to Craig Steven McKitrick, we hold tight to the memories that comfort us, the lessons that guide us, and the love that will forever connect us to a man who truly made the world a brighter place.
