Dale Gordon Darling Obituary

Dale Gordon "Red" Darling, a man of vibrant spirit and enduring legacy, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 85. Born on May 2, 1939, in Cortland, New York, Red's early years were marked by the warmth of small-town life and the enduring values of family and hard work that he carried with him throughout his life.

Red's journey was one of dedication and craftsmanship. While loving a fulfilling career at Miller Brewery, he channeled his passion for creation into being a custom home builder and later excavating contractor. His skilled hands and keen eye for detail shaped not only the physical landscapes around him but also the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

An avid lover of the open road, Red found joy and freedom atop his Harley Davidson motorcycle, with the wind in his hair and the sun on his back. His love for rebuilding antique cars was a testament to his patience and his appreciation for the beauty of a bygone era. Red's hobbies were a reflection of a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life. A man of strong opinions and a robust character, Red was never one to shy away from a lively discussion. He had a deep love for country music, the kind that speaks to the soul, and he could often be found enjoying the tales of heroism and frontier justice in his favorite westerns. His passion for shooting trap was a blend of his precision and patience, and it was an activity that brought him both challenge and relaxation.

Above all, Red's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Ronnie, and leaves behind a legacy through his children, Richard Darling, Eric Smith (Tammy), and Tammi Kinne (Andy), as well as his stepchildren, Jason Marriott (Stephanie) and Kimberly Guanieri (Bob). His lineage extends to the smiles and laughter of his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. His sister, Donna Edwards, will cherish the memories of growing up with a brother who was both a playmate and protector. Red's life was one of affection and care not only for his family but also for his furry companions. His pets, who were a source of comfort and companionship, were treated as part of the family and shared in the love that filled his home. Red's departure leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his spirit endures in the stories told, the lessons learned, and the love shared.

He was a man who made an indelible mark on the world, not through grand gestures, but through the integrity of his actions and the sincerity of his heart. As we bid farewell to Dale Gordon "Red" Darling, we take comfort in knowing that his was a life well-lived, full of passion, purpose, and the unyielding love of a family man. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his presence.

In honoring Red's rich and storied life, we remember a man who built more than homes—he built a foundation of love and strength that will support his family for generations to come. May he ride on, with the horizon stretched out before him, into the eternal sunset, leaving behind a trail of light for all of us to follow.
