David Westley Carnes Sr. Obituary

David Westley Carnes Sr., known affectionately as Dave, passed away on July 4, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 70.

Born on December 1, 1955, in New York, Dave lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep love for the simple joys that made life meaningful. He carried himself with a strong spirit and a warm heart, and those who knew him will remember him for his quick wit, his playful sense of humor, and the unmistakable spark that made him such a memorable presence. Dave was a jokester who enjoyed cutting up with those around him, and he had a way of bringing laughter into a room. At the same time, he could be a spitfire when the moment called for it, and that fiery spirit was part of what made him so genuine and beloved.

Dave found great happiness in the life he built around his farm and his horses. He loved spending time with and riding his horses. He enjoyed working on the farm and took pride in the life he created there. The farm was more than a place of labor to him. It was home, sanctuary, and a source of joy.

Dave absolutely enjoyed coon hunting with his dog Rain and his dear and closest friend. He also had a deep affection for his German shepherds, Puppy 1, Puppy 2, and Puppy 3, who were constant companions and faithful friends. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him, and he treated them with the same care and loyalty that he gave to the people in his life. Whether he was with his horses, his dogs, or his family, Dave was most content when surrounded by the things and people he loved.

Family was central to Dave’s life. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, and his three sons, David W. Carnes Jr., Dusty Carnes, and Jack Carnes. He also leaves behind grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought him joy and pride.  He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years Debra Carnes. His devotion to his family was steady and sincere, and the bond he shared with them will remain a lasting part of his legacy. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Dave’s life was one of character, humor, and heart. He worked hard, loved deeply, and lived in a way that was true to himself. He appreciated the value of a good laugh, the comfort of familiar company, and the quiet beauty of a day spent outdoors. Those who knew him will remember his strong personality, his love of the farm, and the way he embraced life with both grit and good humor.

Though he is no longer here, the memory of Dave will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.  He is in his happy place running through the green meadow with his horse Prince on  the outskirts of Heaven. His family and friends will carry forward the stories, laughter, and love he shared so freely. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and a life well lived.
