Diego Bonilla Obituary

Diego Bonilla,  passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. Born on May 26, 1945, in the vibrant city of Havana, Cuba, Diego's journey of 78 years was one marked by joy, laughter, and an insatiable curiosity about the world around him.

Diego's early years in Havana instilled in him a zest for life and a passion for culture that he carried with him throughout his life. It was this passion that eventually led him to the love of his life, Carmen. Together, they built a life founded on love, mutual respect, and an unbreakable partnership. Their recent celebration of 43 years of marriage stands as a testament to their enduring devotion. He is also survived by daughters Yvonne Bonilla and Marlene Viciedo.

A man of many interests, Diego was an enthusiastic softball player well into his 50s. His competitive spirit and love for the game were evident in every match he played. When he wasn't on the field, Diego could be found indulging in his love of travel, exploring new destinations, and embracing the beauty of different cultures. His adventures were often recounted with a fine cigar in hand, another of his occasional pleasures.

Diego's quest for knowledge was unending. He had an especially keen interest in history, spending many hours engrossed in documentaries on National Geographic and The History Channel. His fascination with the past was not just a hobby but a way of understanding the world and sharing that understanding with those around him.

Known for his quick wit, Diego was a jokester at heart. His ability to come up with a funny response in any situation was legendary among his friends and family. But more than his humor, it was his kind and loving nature that truly defined him. Diego's generosity of spirit made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, and his benevolent approach to life's challenges was a source of inspiration.

He leaves behind a family who adored him and a community that respected him. His wife Carmen, his daughters Yvonne and Marlene, and the countless friends whose lives he touched, will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he embodied.
