In Loving Memory of George & Harriet Van Hooser
Some people are so deeply connected that even death can't keep them apart. George and
Harriet's unwavering devotion to each other and to their Lord is a beautiful love story that
spanned nearly 65 years.

Harriet peacefully passed on July 1, 2026, after years of living with dementia. George never left
her side, caring for her at home until the last two days of her life, when he needed to be
hospitalized himself. Two days after Harriet passed, George asked his daughter to confirm that
she was gone. Just six hours later, July 3, 2026, George’s earthly journey came to an end, as he
went home to be with Harriet and their Lord. 

George and Harriet met while attending Bob Jones University, where they sat just two seats
apart. George often recalled that Harriet had "the sexiest ankles I’d ever seen." He fell in love
with her playful spirit and expressed his feelings through hundreds of love letters, all of which
Harriet treasured and kept throughout their marriage.
Harriet retired after 22 years with JCPenney. She truly never met a stranger. She loved quilting,
collecting recipes, and finding pictures in the clouds above. She always welcomed family and
friends into her home and never missed a chance to remind the people she loved most to "Be
sweet."

George served his life as a pastor and teacher and was a devoted student of God’s Word.
Though none of his writings were formally published, he spent his life studying, writing, and
teaching through sermons, books, lessons, and letters. In his quieter moments, you could often
find him working on a puzzle or enjoying a long drive. His love of learning, teaching, and sharing
with others was simply part of who he was and a beautiful part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Preceded in death by their daughter, Susannah, they are lovingly remembered by their
daughter, Frances; grandson, Ian; granddaughter, Marissa; great-grandson, Malachi; along with
many extended family members and dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at Owings United Methodist Church Cemetery in
Ownings/Grey Court, SC on December 15, 2026—It seems only fitting to celebrate their lives
and their commitment to one another and their Lord on the day they would have celebrated their
65th wedding anniversary.

George and Harriet will be deeply missed, and their family is grateful for the long, adventurous
life they shared together. In their memory, the family invites those who wish to make a donation
