Gerald Edmund Williams Obituary

Gerald Edmund Williams - In Loving Memory

Gerald Edmund Williams, 65, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on
September 10, 2026, in Melrose, Florida. Gerry was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, adopted as a young boy, and grew to adulthood in nearby Rexburg, Idaho. His life took him through many different places, jobs, and experiences, but wherever he was, he had a way of making people feel loved.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gerry served a two-year mission in Quezon City, Philippines, and spent much of his life serving others through countless church callings, most recently in the bishopric of the Interlachen LDS Ward.

He was also proud to have served in the United States Army. He was a hard worker and had his own pest control business before retiring. Faith and service were important parts of who he was and Gerry will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who always put others before himself. He was warm, patient, had a curious mind, and a serious sweet tooth. He loved music, sang in choirs, and played the trombone. He was very knowledgeable and quite the DIY guy, from building structures to car repairs, Gerry was very handy to have around.

Gerry had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed videos of pranks being played on others and shows with reunions of families with adopted children. He didn't need to be the center of attention. Often, it was just something he said, a silly observation, or that unmistakable Gerry way of looking at things that brought a smile to the people around him. He had a way of turning the ordinary into stories his family would remember and laugh about for years to come.

Gerry was a magnet to his grandkids because of his gentle nature. They were often found cuddled in his lap, giggling along with cute videos or games. Being a grandpa brought him a special kind of joy and gave him countless reasons to smile. Gerry had a wonderful way with animals. It was rare to see him without a dog close by. He had a special
tenderness for animals, and they seemed to instinctively trust him and love him in return. It brings tremendous comfort to know that his dog, Sadie, was steadfastly by his side as he left this earth. It feels fitting that one of his loyal companions was there to offer him that same love when he needed it most.

Gerry leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of thirteen years, Sandy. Her adventurous spirit and warm, vivacious nature made every chapter of their life together an adventure worth taking. Together, they made homes and memories throughout the Midwest, Texas, and, finally, to Florida—the place Gerry had long dreamed of calling home in retirement. Their life together was filled with laughter, love, and the kind of companionship that made even ordinary days meaningful. Together, they were the infamous “Team Williams.”
There are people whose lives are measured by accomplishments, titles, or things they leave behind. Gerry's life is better measured by the love he gave, the kindness he showed, the laughter he shared, and the people and animals who felt safe and loved in his presence.

He will be deeply and profoundly missed by his children, Kira and Danial Williams; granddaughter Georgina; his stepchildren Ali Goljahmofrad, Natasha (James) Ireland, and grandchildren Taylor, Layla, and Stefen; stepdaughters Crystal (Michael) Porterfield, Katie (Jason) Webre; and Sarah (Scott) Brunson who together added 11 more grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Roxanne Cruz; adopted siblings, including Alan (Cindy) Williams, Laura (Allen) Shaw, Jennifer Westfall, David Williams; many nieces and nephews, friends, and relatives.
Gerry was preceded in death by his birth parents, Kenny and Beverly Whiting Dettman, and his adoptive parents, Edmund and Arlene Barzee Williams; his younger sister, Christina Whiting; and his niece, Jenessa Bowen.

Please join us in celebrating Gerry's life. If you knew him, we would love for you to share a favorite memory or special moment either at the memorial service or in the comments below. Those memories are a precious part of the life he leaves behind, and we would be grateful to hear them.
Gerry will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
