James Prince Pearson, known affectionately by many as “Pete”, passed away on September 29, 2023, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on December 1, 1944, in Thelma, North Carolina, and throughout his life, he was known for his loving, kind, and faith-filled nature.

Pete was a devoted husband to Vivian Pearson, his wife of 25 years, and a loving father to his children and stepchildren. His family was the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, his daughter, Tonya Faison (Michael), his sons, Jay and Robert Pearson, and his stepchildren, Regina Gatling, Iesha Gatling-Spence, and James Douglas Gatling Jr. He was also a proud grandfather to Dominque Pearson (Christi), Aja Pearson, Sha'von Faison, Nishawntae Jones, Christian Faith Gatling, Michael T. Gatling, Satori Gatling Welch, Kaya Spence, Nia Gatling, Joseph Gatling Jr. and James D. Gatling III. He was equally proud to be a great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Vivian Mae Wooten, his brother, Larry Howell, and his special friend of over 40 years, Bill Wilson.

Professionally, Pete was a respected educator, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Elizabeth City  State University. He dedicated 15 years of his career to teaching as a GED instructor within the North Carolina Prison System, where he made a significant impact on many lives. His dedication to education was not just a profession but a vocation, and he was well-regarded and respected by his colleagues and students alike.

Pete was a man of many interests and passions. Among his favorite pastimes was fishing, a hobby that allowed him to enjoy nature and spend peaceful moments reflecting on life. His love for his family was unmatched. He was a loving husband to Vivian, and their bond was something to be admired. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his love and guidance were invaluable, and his legacy will live on through the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren.

Pete was a man of great faith, and his kindness was evident to all who knew him. He lived his life with a generosity of spirit that was both inspiring and comforting. His unwavering faith was a beacon for those around him, and his kindness and love left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was a man who believed in the power of love, kindness, and faith, and he lived his life in a way that reflected these values.

Pete will be remembered for his loving nature, his dedication to his family, and his commitment to education. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
