Jeannette Smith Obituary
Eva May Jeannette (Lapierre) Smith, known affectionately to all as Jeannette, passed away peacefully in Umatilla, Florida, on January 10, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on February 12, 1930, in Spencer, Massachusetts, Jeannette was a beacon of light and warmth in the lives of all who knew her, embodying the essence of love and gentleness throughout her remarkable life.
Jeannette grew up in Spencer, the heart of a bustling family, one of thirteen siblings who shared an unbreakable bond. She carried the spirit of her family's love and unity throughout her life, creating a legacy of kindness that would touch countless hearts. After marrying the love of her life, Richard Smith II, she embraced the role of a devoted wife and mother, a vocation she held most dear. Together, they raised a family built on the foundations of affection, understanding, and joy.
Her husband, Richard, predeceased her in 1988, but Jeannette's strength and love continued to be the glue that held her family together. She was a guiding light for her children, Richard Smith III and his wife Patty of Spencer, MA; Bonnie Charpentier and her husband Hank of Polk City, FL; and Kim Elfast and her husband Brian of Umatilla, FL. Her legacy further blossomed with the birth of her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her teachings and the memory of her unconditional love.
Jeannette's sister, Lorrette Pechie, remains to honor her memory, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who were blessed to have felt the gentle touch of her presence in their lives. She was a cherished sister, aunt, and friend whose stories, laughter, and wisdom will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
Throughout her life, Jeannette was known for her generous spirit and her outspoken nature—a combination that endeared her to many and ensured that her presence was felt and her opinions valued. She had the remarkable ability to express her thoughts and feelings with clarity and warmth, which made her both a supportive confidant and a wise counselor to her friends and family.
In her younger years, Jeannette's creativity shone brightly through her love of knitting, a skill that she both cherished and excelled at. The beautiful pieces she crafted were not only expressions of her talent but also tokens of her love, often given to those she held dear. As a private person, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing quiet moments spent at home surrounded by the familiar comforts of family and friends.
Those who knew Jeannette will remember her as a loving mother, a doting grandmother, a caring sister, and a true friend. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of creativity, and the strength of family bonds. Jeannette's memory will forever be cherished and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jeannette will be deeply missed, yet her light will continue to shine in the lives of her family and friends, guiding them just as she did in life.
