John "Jack" Joseph (Jr) Fergus Obituary

John Joseph Fergus Jr., affectionately known as Jack, passed away on January 18,
2026, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on September 16, 1952, in Evergreen Park,
Illinois, and grew up in Katonah, New York, and Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He is preceded in
death by his parents, John Joseph and Maureen Fergus, sisters Peggy and Cathy, and
stepmother, Marianne Fergus.

Jack was a resident of VFW Veterans Village in Fort McCoy, Florida, and a proud United
States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam era. He was a lifetime member of AMVETS
and the VFW, Post 4209, Ocala, Florida. A proud patriot and Catholic, Jack served his
country with honor.

After earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Loyola University in Chicago,
Illinois, Jack went on to enjoy a successful career in the commodities markets, before
then moving on to teach Middle School History in the Chicago Public School System.
His dedication to shaping young minds was unwavering.

Jack's gregarious nature was contagious and enjoyed by all. He is survived by his loving
brother Tom (Pari), with whom he enjoyed a lifelong love of sports, and was an avid fan
of Notre Dame, the New York Giants, and Chicago White Sox. He is also survived by
sisters Ann (the late Mark), and Patricia (Al). Jack was also uncle to many nieces and
nephews.
