Larry Burns Obituary
Larry Burns, 86 years old of Silver Springs, Florida passed away on Friday August 9, 2024.
Larry was preceded in death by the absolute love of his life, Laverne R. Burns (nee Walker). Larry and Laverne married while still in their teens and were devoted partners for nearly 63 years before Laverne’s passing. They were a good and honest couple with an unparalleled work ethic and a deep love for Jesus Christ.
Before they were in their 20s they built their first home with their own hands. They built many of the homes they spent their love story in. Many homes in southwest Ohio were constructed from the foundation up, by this perfectly matched couple. Beautiful homes in Hamersville, Williamsburg, Bethel, Felicity and New Richmond, Ohio -- all had their creation from the hard work and practical knowledge of Larry and Laverne. It is a testament to the values which were instilled in them from their own wonderful parents. Larry and Laverne applied all the good lessons of their upbringing and passed them on to their own five children.
Dreama L. Moore, deceased, survived by her husband Steve Moore
Larry Bryan (Mary Jo) Burns
Donald R. Burns
Tina L. Smith, deceased
Leah D. (William) Levitt
They were blessed with 10 grandchildren: Glenn (died in infancy), Justin, Bobbie, Brittany, Darren, Adam, David (deceased), Erica, Madeline and Paul.
Larry Burns was born into a large family of 10 children. He is survived by his dear older brother James Burns and beloved younger sister Darlene Souder.
Larry loved to travel! He and Laverne traveled extensively throughout the U.S with their children camping in tents and RVs. When the kids grew up, they traveled with friends and relatives: Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hawaii, the Caribbean, New York and on Cruises. Always ready for an adventure, after retirement they sold their home and spent more than a year living in their RV, travelling around the United States.
Larry had numerous friends from his long employment at Ford Motor Company, his church families and “The Liars Club” in Ripley. You didn’t stay a casual acquaintance with Larry very long. He gave his heart easily and was helpful to everyone he encountered. He was always jovial and quick with a joke. Larry was a committed Christian and member of the Assembly of God Church.
After his wife Laverne’s passing, Larry married a second time. She had three adult children from one of her previous marriages. Larry knew two of these children and they were special to him: George Charles Altemeier and Ann Wyss Altemeier. Their mother is Katherine Jean (nee Wilson) Altemeier, Mechlem, Wagner, Bingamon.
Memorial and Funeral Service will take place at Bethel United Church in Bethel, Ohio
