Luis R Colon Obituary

Luis R. Colón, "Negro" – A Life Full of Love, Laughter, and Faith

With deep sorrow and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce Luis R. Colón, affectionately known as “Negro”, has gone to be The Lord, on March 28, 2025, at the age of 79 in Ocala, Florida. Born on October 31, 1945, in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, Luis was a man whose spirit was as vibrant and rich as the land he came from. His heart was as big as his love for his family, and his memory will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

Luis’ life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, family, and joy. A devoted man of God, his unwavering belief and love for his Creator were the foundation upon which he built every aspect of his life. He cherished his family above all else, proudly embracing his role as a patriarch. Luis leaves behind a legacy that will continue through his loving brother, Manuel Colón; his cherished daughters, Maritza Ortiz and Alicia Feliciano; his adored granddaughters, Jennifer Cepero, Jeanette Robinson, and Jennifer Bosch; his treasured grandsons, Jose, Chinito, Jeremy, and John; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, Stella, who all brought him immense happiness.

Known far and wide as El Chef de Ocala, Luis had a gift for cooking that went beyond the kitchen. His culinary creations, full of authentic Puerto Rican flavors, were an expression of love and a way to bring his family together. Whether it was arroz con gandules, mofongo, or lechón, his dishes were as rich in taste as his character. He poured his heart into every meal, always with a smile, and shared his joy for life through the food he served.

Luis had an unshakeable love for the beach, where the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sand beneath his feet brought him peace and contentment. His appreciation for the beauty of nature mirrored the serenity he found in spending time with his family and friends. A passionate collector with a keen eye for the unique, Luis took great joy in finding treasures that held special meaning. His home was always filled with the nostalgic melodies of old Spanish music, a reflection of his soul and passion for his heritage. And no one could match his enthusiasm for WrestleMania, earning him the affectionate title of WrestleMania maniac among his family.

Luis’ laughter was contagious, and his ability to make everyone around him feel loved and cherished was a rare gift. He had a way of lighting up every room he entered with his warm presence, bringing comfort to anyone who needed it. His patience, kindness, and humor made him a beloved figure in his community. In his younger years, Luis was known for his love of dancing, his graceful movements, a true reflection of the joy that filled his heart.

Luis' devotion to his church was evident in his years of service as a youth advisor and treasurer in New York, where he played an integral role in nurturing the faith of young people. He had a lifetime of stories to share, each one infused with wisdom and laughter, always leaving his listeners with a sense of warmth and understanding.

As we say our final goodbyes to this extraordinary man, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind—memories that will continue to inspire, comfort, and guide his family and friends. Luis R. Colón’s life was a beautiful journey, and his legacy of love, laughter, and faith will forever shine in our hearts.

Que descanse en paz, Negro. Your light will never fade.
