Mario A MIlls Obituary

Mario Alphonso Mills, after battling against the after-effects of a devastating stroke for 12 years, was blessed to spend his final moments in the presence of all those he held dear. Throughout his entire journey, Mario always managed to maintain his playful and loving nature. Even in; his final moments on earth, he was blowing kisses, and smiling, like he never smiled before. Mario Mills, beloved son, husband, father, and friend was a 'Superman' to his loved ones, and he demonstrated his enormous capacity for strength in every stage of his vibrant life. Mario was of Caribbean lineage. The place of his birth was Saint Croix, which is the largest of the US Virgin Islands. Later, at the age of nine, his parents, Inez Mills, Alphonso Mills, and his sister Janet, moved to New York City. During his childhood, Mario was a gifted mathematician, and avid lover; with his fiercely protective 'Lassie' look-alike collie always by his side. Mario started out as a small, spry fellow who was a dedicated track-runner in high school. Later, as an adult, Mario grew to be a tall, muscular, imposing figure.

Mario served his country in the United States Army, completing his training as 'squad leader'. In the army, Mario was part of the Military Police(MP). As an MP, he protected peoples' lives and property on Army installations by enforcing military laws and regulations. He later went on to become a NYC police officer, where he protected the innocent and was brave enough to stand up for the voiceless. Mario also worked at a hospital and delivered mail as a United States Postal Carrier in Manhattan for over 3 decades. Marion was so well liked by the executives along his mail route, that he would often receive appreciation gifts, such as seats directly behind home plate of Yankee Stadium. Along with Mario's many endeavors, he even managed to open his own restaurant. Mario made steak sandwiches and sold bean pies! He was a charismatic salesman, from selling Amway products to various novelty items. Due to his larger-than-life personality, he could sell almost anything to anyone. Once retired, he relocated with his beloved family Carolyn, Matia and Thomas to Ocala, Fl.

But this is not a resume, this is about a legacy. Mario's legacy was not in material possessions, awards, or his many accomplishments; words and was not known for bragging: except when talking about his cherished offspring. One of the happiest moments in his life was the birth of four children, and he was fiercely protective of them. Again, Mario was a 'Superman' to his family in so many ways. Shortly after obtaining his real-estate license: Mario met the love of his life, Carolyn in a local real-estate office. While he was trying to build his real-estate clientele, he  ended upbuilding a new life with Carolyn. It was love at first sight. Mario and his devoted wife, Carolyn, supported each other in many ways every step of the way. The love they had for each other was undeniable. together, they had two loving children: Matia and Thomas.

Mario loved riding motorcycles, playing billiards, roller-skating, 'bodybuilding' and riding famous 'Cyclone' roller coaster at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. Mario's greatest dream was for all his children to remain connected with each other. In his last moments, Mario was able to convey in his own way that he was pleased to see his dream fulfilled. One of Mario's favorite sayings was 'Here today, gone tomorrow'. Mario has passed from this present world, and he will be dearly missed but he will live on in the memories of his loved ones, as his legacy continues.

Mario is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Mills; loving children Matia Doherty, Fl and Thomas Mills, Fl, Cheryl S. Mills-Hobbs, NY and Eli Mills, FL. He was predeceased by his father Alphonso Mills, mother Inez Mills and sister Janet Hicks. His close tight-circle of family and loved ones will attend a a celebration of Mario's life, which will be held at the National Cemetery on March 20th at 11am.
