Marion Lefton Obituary
Marion Wynell Werger Lefton (1937–2025)
Marion Wynell Werger Lefton passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by wit, resilience, and quiet elegance.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, to Helen and Frank Werger, Marion grew up alongside siblings Ken, Frank Jr., and Linda. After graduating high school, her older brother Ken, a celebrated New York journalist and photographer, introduced Marion to modeling—a glamorous stint she famously called “highly paid drudgery.” She appeared on hot rod magazine covers, hosted celebrity parties featuring legends like Joe DiMaggio—who personally turned her into a lifelong Yankees fan—and attended movie premieres during Hollywood’s golden era. She was also a finalist in the popular Miss Rheingold competition, a notable achievement in the 1950s.
When modeling ended, Marion reinvented herself, starting as a billing clerk at an advertising agency. With a career spanning nearly four decades, she steadily rose through the industry ranks, ultimately handling media billing for global agency holding company Interpublic, home to famed agencies like McCann Erickson. Marion proudly worked at Wells Rich Greene when Mary Wells broke barriers as the first woman to own a top-10 agency—the real-life inspiration behind Mad Men’s Peggy Olson.
In 1970, Marion married dentist Irwin Lefton, whom she met, charmingly enough, as his patient. They shared 35 years until his passing in 2005 and had one child, Marc, who followed her footsteps into advertising, albeit on the creative side.
Marion took joy in life’s simple rituals: decorating meticulously for every imaginable holiday, avidly gardening, tackling DIY projects, and faithfully following soap operas General Hospital and Days of Our Lives since their debut in the 1960s. She adored animals—especially cats—and warmly opened her heart and home to rescued companions.
In 2003, Marion relocated from Long Island to Florida, remaining active in her retirement by volunteering at—and eventually managing—The Shepherd’s Lighthouse, a domestic violence shelter and thrift store. Her Florida years brought deep friendships, many forged through shared adventures thrifting and treasure-hunting.
Marion is survived by her son, Marc Lefton, along with beloved friends who will remember her humor, kindness, and unmistakable spark.
