Marvin Lee Sorvala Obituary
Marvin Lee Sorvala, known to many simply as Marv, passed away on April 30, 2026, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 76.
Born on December 2, 1949, in Hancock, Michigan, Marv carried the values of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was a man of quiet strength, steady kindness, and thoughtful presence. Those who knew him will remember his gentle manner, his warm smile, and the calm, grounded way he moved through life's many seasons. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he touched countless lives with his patience, compassion, and easygoing spirit.
Marv earned a Master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota, a reflection of both his intelligence and his quiet determination. His education shaped a life marked by hard work, responsibility, and practical wisdom. He had a natural gift for finding solutions and believed, with sincere conviction, that most things in life could be mended with enough care, patience, and effort. That outlook was a large part of what made him such a dependable and reassuring presence to everyone around him.
Beyond his professional life, Marv found joy in life's simpler and most meaningful pleasures. He loved the outdoors, especially hiking, biking, and the quiet beauty of time spent in nature. He delighted in dancing and traveling, gathering memorable moments alongside the people he loved. Games were another source of happiness for him, especially when shared with family and friends. He treasured the time he spent with his Bible Study groups, where friendship, faith, and fellowship were a cherished part of his life.
Marv was deeply devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Wanda, with whom he shared many cherished years and built a loving family. He is survived by his wife, DiAnn; his daughters, Lynn (Joe), Lisa (Brad), and Jenny (Andy); his step-children, Dana (Jay) and Brock (Michele); and his grandchildren, Emily, Julia, Elizabeth, Allison, Mary, Olivia, Mikayla, Josiah, Kylee, Alexis, Wyatt, Addison, Easton, Miken, Bryce, and Manning. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Tish), and his nephews, Christopher and Anthony. His family was the center of his heart, and he took great pride in the people they had become. He loved them in all the ways that matter most, and his presence brought comfort, stability, and quiet encouragement to each of them.
Marv was known as a laid-back man and a true peacemaker. He had a gift for bringing calm to difficult situations and for helping others feel heard and understood. His patience was one of his greatest strengths, matched by a sincere desire to help whenever and wherever he could. He approached life with grace and humility, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In his later years, Marv's faith and his dedication to sharing the Gospel grew especially evident. It was his deepest hope that those he loved would come to know Christ, and Marv would rejoice in heaven knowing you have accepted Christ as your Savior.
Marv's life was a testament to devotion, integrity, and love. He will be remembered for the way he cared for his family, the friendships he nurtured, the faith he shared, and the steady example he set for others. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. His family and friends will hold close the many cherished moments they shared with him, forever grateful for the life he lived so fully and so well.
In honor of Marv's deep faith and love for Christ, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Gateway Church in his name.
