Michael Joseph Potenza Jr., known affectionately as Mickey P to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 89. Born on February 4, 1934, in Stamford, Connecticut, Mickey P's journey through life was marked by his charismatic personality, a deep love for his family, and an unwavering passion for horses.

His legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ellen Potenza, who stood by his side through the many seasons of life. Together, they raised a family that includes their devoted daughter, Donna, and her husband, Ron, their son, John, and his wife, Loeta.  Mickey P's spirit will forever be cherished in the laughter and love of his grandchildren Ashley (and her husband, William), Ryan, Kevin, and Craig. His great-grandchildren Ella, Zoey, Alex, and Aaron will grow up hearing the legendary tales of their great-grandfather's adventures. Michael also leaves behind his sister Brenda, brother Joe (and his wife Karen) special cousin Bob, and his nieces Chiara (and her husband, Brian), Amy (and her husband, Mike) and Hillary (and her husband, Jeff), Wendy ( and her husband Tony) as well as a host of extended family and friends who were touched by his vivacious character.

Through his career as a horse trainer, Mickey P found his calling and joy. He was not just a trainer but an aficionado of horses, dedicating his life to understanding and caring for these magnificent creatures. His natural talent and affinity for horses led him to many friendships and connections within the equestrian community. Those who worked with Mickey P knew him as a master of his craft, a man who could hear the unspoken words of the horses he loved so dearly.

His interests extended beyond the racetrack; Mickey P was a consummate storyteller, with more horse stories than anyone could count. Each tale was not just a recounting of events but a glimpse into the rich tapestry of a life well-lived and a passion pursued with every ounce of his being. His ability to sell anything to anyone was legendary. He was a great salesperson, not because he was persuasive, but because he was genuinely personable and believed in the value of what he offered.

Mickey P's presence was undeniable. He commanded the room with his humor and friendliness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. His quick wit and easy smile made him the life of any gathering, and his funny anecdotes were a source of joy for all. Mickey P was the kind of person who could make a friend in an instant and keep them for a lifetime.

The world is a little less vibrant with Mickey P's  passing. Yet, the memories he created, the stories he shared, and the love he spread will continue to inspire and comfort those who were privileged to know him. He was a beacon of light, a source of laughter, and a pillar of strength for his family. Mickey P's journey on earth may have concluded, but the echoes of his laughter, the warmth of his friendship, and the impact of his life will endure forever.
