Nita Lashawn (Sr.) Brannen Obituary

Nita Lashawn Brannen, affectionately known as Nina Black, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Ocala, Florida. Born on August 18, 1966, in Gainesville, Florida, Nita's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew her throughout her 59 years of life.

Nina was a woman of remarkable presence, known for her love of cooking, which she often paired with a side of playful trash talk that kept her family on their toes and filled their home with warmth and laughter. Her passion for fashion and jewelry was evident to all, as she navigated the world with impeccable style and nails that were always sharp and expressive. Nina's big personality was matched only by her big heart, especially when it came to her family, for whom she was a fierce and unwavering supporter.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her children, Ashley Miller and her husband Bob, Kerrie Grissett, and Arhiannan Brannen with her husband William. Nina's joy was multiplied by her grandchildren, Jaylah, Peyton, Zendaya, and Kaine, who will carry the sparkle of her spirit into the future. She is also survived by her devoted siblings, Anthony Starling with his wife Diane, and Henry Simmons Jr. with his wife JoAnn. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Simmons and Beulah Boswell, as well as her beloved siblings, Josephine, Vivian, Bonnie, Willie James, Walter, Johnnie, and Michael. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she often spoke of them with love and fond remembrance.

Nina's life was a testament to her resilience, her unapologetic zest for life, and her ability to bring people together. She was a beacon of light and love in her community and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we say goodbye to Nina, we also celebrate the indelible mark she has left on our hearts and the world.
