Oscar had a real passion helping those with disabilities to become better at being themselves. He volunteered many years with Special Olympics and other organizations and was dedicated in his career as a job coach. He volunteered with Joni and Friends and helped to organize fund raisers including wheelchair basketball, raffles and so much more. He was a veteran of the US Navy and loved his country.
Oscar joined the Gideons International November 23, 2010. He was very active and spoke at several churches presenting the Gideon mission to reach the lost for Christ thru the scriptures. He considered Living Waters Worship Center his home church. He had a stroke which paralyzed him while serving the Lord at Church in the Garden Ocala on Feb 25, 2017. Col John Clark was his Prayer Partner at several churches, and they would go to see Teresa Newborn after the service and take her Pepsi. Teresa lived on Pepsi’s while she cared for her bedridden husband for five years prior to his death. John was a faithful friend to Oscar and visited him weekly while at The Lodge. His last duties with Marion County North Camp Gideon International were as Chaplain.
Oscar remained bedridden at The Lodge health & rehab for 6 years until the Lord graciously brought him home March 11, 2023.
Oscar had three children Christian, Georgie, Ruth Ann, from his first marriage. With his second wife Madeline he had Rafael(deceased) Christopher, and Maggie. He has two know grandchildren, Odin Santizo and Rafael Gonzalez. He will be missed by many other friends and relatives.
