Wilfred George Hamel, known affectionately to friends and family as Fred, left this world on December 17, 2025, at the age of 69. Born in Gloversville, New York, on October 19, 1956. He passed away peacefully in Ocklawaha, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and storytelling that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Fred's life was marked by dedication and service, as evidenced by his proud tenure in the United States Marine Corps. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried into all aspects of his life. After his military service, Fred continued to contribute to his community through his involvement with the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3656, where he served as a Trustee for over two decades. His commitment to the organization demonstrated his belief in fellowship and his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

 He is survived by his loving sisters, Carol Hauser and her husband Everett, Diane Wilcox of Tennessee, and Marjorie Flint of Gloversville, NY. His children, Whitney, Derek, and Nicholas,and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Steele and Kathy Ball, and his cherished daughter Monica.

Fred's interests and hobbies painted a picture of a man who embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. An avid camper, he found solace and adventure in the great outdoors, often accompanied by his beloved dog, Diamond. His love for storytelling was legendary; his tales were infused with humor leaving listeners with smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts. Those who knew Fred understood that his stories were not just idle tales but reflections of a life well-lived and full of experiences. 

Above all, Fred was a good person, whose actions spoke louder than words. His kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others were the true hallmarks of his character. As we say goodbye to Wilfred George Hamel, we celebrate a life that was rich in moments that mattered, in friendships that lasted, and in love that will echo through time. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
